The Miracle of Salt
Once Upon a Time...
The use of salt as a natural remedy, dates back more than 2000 years. The famous Egyptian architect Imhotep recommended salt for treatment of infected chest wounds. The Greek physician Hippocrates recommended inhalation of salt steam as a natural remedy for digestive issues, skin, and respiratory conditions. Salt was valuable in many ways, it was a health remedy, spice, as well as a currency. It was used in rituals and according to different sources, appeared to be a symbol of wealth.
The oldest salt sites were on the lands of Eastern Europe and Russia, with the city of Provadia, Bulgaria, believed to be one of the oldest in Europe. Modern Salt Therapy, aka Halotherapy (from the Greek word “halos” meaning “salt”), originates in the salt mines in Europe and Russia and was called Speleotherapy (from the Greek word “speleon” meaning “cave”).
In 1843 the Polish physician, Dr. Feliks Boczkowski discovered that the men working in the salt mines rarely suffered from respiratory problems. The air pressure and circulation in the salt mine, saturated with dry salt particles which were disbursed in the air through chiseling, grinding and hammering the salt, was believed to have caused the healing effects on people with pulmonary and respiratory problems. Therefore, the miners appeared healthier and looked younger, compared to the general population.
Speleotherapy still exists and has evolved into more modern and sophisticated services, and breathtaking moments can be experienced in the caves of Wieliczka, Poland; Berchtesgaden, Germany; and Salina Turda, Romania.
Today Halotherapy is wildly popular and well established in Europe and just recently stepped its foot in the United States.
How does it work?
Halotherapy is a dry salt therapy, provided in man-made environments such as salt caves, rooms, beds, and booths. A special piece of equipment called a Halogenerator, disperses precisely ground up pure sodium chloride aerosol into a room or cabin which mimics the environment of the natural salt cave and allows you to breathe the benefits of salt .
The anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties of the salt are a natural way to ease conditions such as asthma, cough, cold, flu, sinus infections/ sinusitis, ear infections, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, COPD, allergies, and snoring, as well as sleeping problems.
Dry salt therapy is safe for adults, children, babies, and even pregnant women! So come on in, sit down in the comfort of our salt booth, relax, listen to the music, and enjoy! When the session is over, brush the dust off and exit. Inhale, exhale, and breathe easier!
